The Huddersfield 10k

2017 Race Results and Report

The 2017 Huddersfield 10k results are available here as an Excel spreadsheet and at www.ukresults.net.

Our race is held on the last Sunday in February each year, with our last one on Sunday 26th February 2017. This year was the 27th running of the Huddersfield 10k.

The weather forecast in the lead up to the race suggested we were in for a mild dry day.  This lived up to its promise although a strong breeze made running a challenge.

Continued use of chip timing meant we could manage up to 700 entrants and we are delighted to report that we sold out, and race entries closed earlier than ever before at the end of January.  For the disappointed runners that didn’t get their entry in, we'll be opening entries for the 2018 Huddersfield 10k in early November so get yours submitted in plenty of time.

The men's (and race) winner was Joe Sweetnam-Powell an ‘open category’ member of Sheffield RC in a time of 35:43 minutes, a 4 second distance ahead of unattached ‘open category’ Richard Smith who came in at 35:47 minutes.  Third place went to Andrew Worster of Todmorden Harriers who finished in 36:39 minutes.

The first lady finisher was Fiona Davies, a female vet over 40 of Rotherham Harriers with a time of 41:49, followed by Johanna Winks of Halifax Harriers, also a female vet over 40 and last year’s female race winner, in a time of 41:59.  Third place went to Bridget Coomber, a female vet over 50 of Denby Dale AC in 44:38 minutes.

A turnout from Huddersfield's Stadium Runners enabled the club to claim both the first and third team prizes in the men's category, and Todmorden Harriers took 2nd place.  The ladies team prizes were claimed by Todmorden Harriers, Stadium Runners and Roberttown Road Runners respectively.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the 2017 race, we hope you enjoyed the undulating Yorkshire course and that we will see you again in 2018.

  • We are one of the cheapest races with an entry fee of £10 for ARC/UKA affiliates or £12 unattached, plus an additional 50p for online entries, but with a good prize list and t-shirt for all finishers as we wish to encourage runners to take part.
